I think its like most things. if your company is a high flier like this one was when the video was taken, you can give away anything. at Google (a very high flier) they have free food, workout rooms, shopping, and a bunch of other stuff. as the profits go away companies tend to cut back on these things.
I do believe this is a great policy because it gives employees the time they need to do those things they want to do but may not otherwise have the time do do. They are not on the video explaining they took a two week vacation in Bermuda laying the the sun all day. They are free to do that, but they are also free to help their world in ways they may not have been able to do before.
